DO's
Inspect your system annually.
Pump septic tank every 4 years.
Maintain records for your septic system, including: inspections, pumping, repair work, etc.
Repair all faucets and toilets with drips or leaks immediately.
Conserve water to reduce wastewater.
Divert all drainage away from absorption field.
Always call a professional if you have questions.
Before:
Settled pipe (no compaction) - effluent is not getting to absorption field - can cause backup into home
Before:
Corroded Distribution Box ("D" Box) - effluent not getting to absorption field - can cause backup into home
Before:
Corroded concrete septic tank - requires crush and backfill in place
DON'T's
Drive or park over any part of your septic system.
Use commercial septic tank additives.
Dig or build on top of your septic system.
Plant any shrubbery, gardens or flowers over the absorption field, only native grasses or non-irrigated grasses.
Flush non-biodegradable items into septic system, including: diapers, tampons, wipes, etc.
Dump harmful chemicals down any drains.
After:
New pipe bedded and sealed at tank - effluent getting to absorption field
After:
New plastic "D" Box with speed levelers (can be adjusted) installed for equal distribution of effluent to absorption field
After:
New concrete, 2-compartment septic tank with plastic lids and risers, bedded and ready for inspection and backfill
